The Lakeshore ATHENA Award, A joint program of the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce, the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, and The Chamber of Grand Haven, Spring Lake, and Ferrysburg.
Traditional Lakeshore ATHENA Award:
The Lakeshore ATHENA Award is presented annually to recognize individuals who demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative in their business or profession, provide valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community, and actively assist women in realizing their full leadership potential.
Lakeshore Young Professional Leadership Award:
The Lakeshore Young Professional Leadership Award is a new award that will be presented annually to recognize individuals who demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative in their business or profession, provide valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community, and clearly serve as a role model for young women personally and professionally. In order to be eligible, the nominee must be 40 years old or younger.
Lakeshore ATHENA Scholarship:
The Lakeshore ATHENA Scholarship is a cash award given to assist non-traditional women students pursuing advanced training and educational opportunities. The scholarship is part of the Lakeshore ATHENA Award, and is made possible through the generous support of individual and corporate sponsors. Over the last 9 years, over $30,000 has been awarded!
Previous Lakeshore ATHENA Award recipients include 2013, Leslie Brown, Metal Flow Corporation; 2012, Patricia VerDuin, Ready for School; 2011, Candace Dugan, Attorney; 2010, Elizabeth Rolinski, Johnson Controls; 2009, Blanche Smith, Executive Director of the Muskegon Family Services Center Workforce Development Center; 2008, Judith Hayner, Executive Director for the Muskegon Museum of Art; 2007, Nancy Miller, Former Dean of Social Sciences at Hope College, Holland; 2006, Nancy McCarthy, Former Director/President of Hackley Visiting Services and Hospice, Muskegon; and 2005, Nancy Crandall, Former Mayor of Norton Shores.
