Chemical Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Chemical Financial Corporation (NASDAQ: CFHC) and Michigan’s largest headquartered banking company, today announced that the results of its first annual Soup Bowl Stars campaign gathered almost 14,000 food items for donation to 12 regional food banks.

“I’m never short of amazed at what our customers and team members can do when they come together for the good of our communities,” said Krista Flynn, Regional President of West Michigan for Chemical Bank. “Something as simple as a hot meal can make a world of difference to some of our neighbors, and our communities didn’t hesitate to go out of their way to help make that difference.”

The campaign, which ran in every Chemical Bank location from January 14 – February 2, encouraged customers and employees to donate non-perishable food items to regional food banks throughout the Bank’s operating footprint in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. Regional food banks partner with local community food banks and service agencies to distribute millions of pounds of food each year. Local emergency food providers, like soup kitchens, food pantries and shelters, can shop their regional food bank or warehouse to acquire food to meet the needs for their own community programs and services. In some areas, donations were donated directly to the local food agencies for immediate impact.

Chemical Bank offices in western and southern Michigan and northern Indiana collected items for Feeding America West Michigan Food Bank and Food Bank of South Central Michigan.

Following the collection campaign, a social media contest was conducted that allowed the top eight banking centers who collected the most items to compete in a tournament-style contest on the Bank’s Facebook business page. Followers were asked to vote for their favorite banking center in each round, and the winning banking center won an additional monetary donation to their food bank. The Caro, MI banking center won the contest which helped gain an additional $500 donation to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan in Flint which distributes food to 22 counties in eastern Michigan.
