Cancellation of Holland Symphony Orchestra Concerts due to COVID-19
Holland Symphony Orchestra Patrons, Ticket Holders, Musicians and Holland Symphony Youth Orchestra Families:
Last Wednesday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency due to the first diagnosed cases of COVID-19 in Michigan. On Thursday, she issued guidelines that called for the cancellation or postponement of public gatherings of 100 or more people. As of today the local schools have adopted these guidelines as well.
This following concerts to be held in the coming two weeks will be either postponed or cancelled:
- Holland Symphony Youth Orchestras Concert on Sunday, March 15th at Fellowship Reformed Church
- Holland Symphony Family Concert on Sunday, March 22nd at Zeeland East High School
- Link Up Concerts on Monday, March 23rd at Zeeland East High School
This is so disappointing to all of us and especially to the youth musicians ready to perform...to say nothing of the almost 2000 fourth grade students all ready for the Link Up concerts. What a strange time we are living in. And yet, if we can help to slow down the spread of this virus by not having these large groups congregate, that is what we should do.
We will discuss whether or not any of these concerts can be rescheduled and will keep you informed. People who have purchased tickets for the Family Concert may exchange this concert for a future concert, donate the tickets to the HSO, or contact the office (616-796-6780) for a refund. (Youth Orchestra tickets are mostly sold at the door.)
We will monitor the impact of this COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation with Ottawa County Health officials as we make decisions about future concerts and events as well as determining if we can reschedule any of these concerts.
Thank you for your understanding.
