Holland, MI – The final Chef Series of the summer will be held this Saturday, August 31 at 10:00 am at the Holland Farmers Market. Jen Plaggemars, executive chef and owner behind Chef Jen LLC will be sharing ideas cooking with her favorite fruit…watermelon! Plaggemars will demonstrate just how versatile this popular summer fruit can be by incorporating it into both savory and sweet dishes. The Chef Series is proudly sponsored by Higher Health Chiropractic with in-kind support from Visser Farms.
Plaggemars graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in dietetics and health promotion. She then pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a chef by studying culinary arts at Kendall College in downtown Chicago. After graduation, she worked as the head chef of a vegetarian catering company where she was able to develop hundreds of healthy recipes based on seasonal fruits and vegetables. From there, she took a job at Hy-Vee, a Midwest grocery store chain, as their head chef and dietitian. Through this job she was able to share her dietitian and culinary expertise through nutrition counseling, cooking classes and community events. Since moving back home to West Michigan, she has been working as a personal chef, caterer and culinary instructor through Chef Jen LLC.
Each week during the Chef Series at the Holland Farmers Market, a talented local chef, caterer or Market vendor demonstrates how to prepare an easy, healthy and delicious meal using fresh Market ingredients. The Chef Series is held at 10:00 am every Saturday through August 31 and is free to attend. Recipes are available at the demonstration and will also be posted online at www.hollandfarmersmarket.com the week following the demonstration.
