Nature center launches in-depth outdoor activities for children to do in their backyards.

HOLLAND MI.  On Wednesday, March 18th the ODC Network launched its Backyard Learning Crusade website (https://sites.google.com/outdoordiscovery.org/odcbackyardcrusade ) to encourage families to take learning outside, especially during the COVID-19 outbreak.  The website has a list of outdoor activities families can do with their kids ages preK-8thgrade in their own backyards.  Every week will have a different theme and kick-off video to get them started.  During their crusade, families will have a chance to observe, explore, investigate, learn more, and share about the topic while getting a great chance to be outside.  Activities are student-designed and tested.  They require minimal materials, most of which are household items.  Each theme has great prompts to follow: observe and explore, investigate and discover, read all about it, dinner discussion, share with the world, and beyond the crusade.

While families are practicing social distancing and kids are staying home from school these materials are an amazing go-to source to ensure schoolchildren are still learning and having fun outdoors.  This is a place to help students (and parents) still engage in meaningful nature-based education while they are out of their traditional classrooms.

You can access the website athttps://sites.google.com/outdoordiscovery.org/odcbackyardcrusade or from the ODC home webpage outdoordiscovery.org and follow the Backyard Crusade link.  We can’t wait to see all of the photos and videos students post - #odcbackyardcrusade.
