LANSING, Michigan — Support for Michigan Smart Trade Alliance’s call for Congress to enact smart and consistent trade policies continues to grow as the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce and the Southeast Michigan Chamber of Commerce join the coalition.

The Michigan West Coast Chamber represents more than 1,200 businesses that employ 80,000 people around Holland and Zeeland and is dedicated to building vibrant and resilient communities. The Southeast Michigan Chamber is the fastest growing chamber in the state, serving 500 businesses across 57 communities.

"The businesses we serve span a wide range of industries, but they share a common need: certainty. When business leaders have confidence in the environment around them, they can focus on innovation, investment, and creating opportunities for their teams and communities," said Jodi Owczarski, Michigan West Coast Chamber president and CEO. "We're proud to join organizations across Michigan in advocating for policies that help create that stability."

“Businesses across a range of sectors, including manufacturing, construction, healthcare or retail, are seeing firsthand the importance of consistent trade policies to successfully plan for the future for their bottom line and employees,” said John Long, chief operating officer of Southeast Michigan Chamber of Commerce.

The prominent business groups join a growing and diverse coalition of nearly a dozen MISTA coalition members spanning industries including manufacturing, retail, healthcare, automotive and tourism and hospitality.

“The addition of the Michigan West Coast Chamber and the Southeast Michigan Chamber to our coalition shows the importance of this issue to businesses across our state,” said MISTA spokesman John Sellek. “From small mom-and-pop operations to multinational corporations, businesses in Michigan want Congress to enact smart and consistent trade policies.”

“We are honored to have these two prominent business organizations join us to further amplify our call for Congress to enact stable and predictable trade policies,” said Mark Fisk, a spokesman for MISTA. “Michigan businesses and families want to see trade policies that will lower prices, create jobs and help our state economy thrive while preserving our deep relationships with partners like Canada.”
